Submission Guidelines for Scholarly Papers

16th International Conference on the Short Story in English, 2021

Submission Guidelines for Conference Scholarly Papers
(Papers should be submitted as per directions below by September 30th, 2021)

Length: Scholarly articles should be between 3000-4000 words, approximately 8-10 pages, in length.

Spacing: Entries should be double spaced.

References: Scholars who submit articles which use references must ensure that the citations are accurate in all respects, including title, journal, pagination, date, year, etc, i.e., including all appropriate identifications. In citing references, use the MLA (Modern Language Association) format.

Cover Page: All submissions should be electronic, and need to include a cover page with the following information:

o Name and Academic Title (If you are a student, please send copy of ID.)
o Institution (if applicable)
o Mailing Address
o Email Address
o Title of Article
o Date of Submission

E-mail Submissions: Send all submissions and any attached documents in Microsoft Word. They should be emailed to Dr. Maurice A. Lee, Editor, at mauricel@uca.edu and copy shortstorycalabria2020@gmail.com

You will receive notification of receipt; if you do not have said notification within 72 hours, please contact him again. Suggestion: Please proofread papers carefully before submission.

Note: It is highly suggested that “jargon” be reduced as much as possible in the articles submitted. Note as well that articles will be edited, and efforts will be made to ensure that scholars have notification of the editing done prior to printing. If your article has been submitted to a journal for publication, give the name of publication and date submitted. If your article has been published previously, it will not be published in this conference volume. It is our hope to have the articles published in book form, whether electronic or paper by the end of February 2022. Accordingly, articles must be submitted on time.

MLA Format

MLA format is the required format for entries submitted for publication. An author who submits an entry which is not in MLA format will be requested to make changes; if changes are not made, then the entry will be rejected. In addition, please note that the article should use endnotes rather than footnotes. In-depth details on MLA format can be found online on such websites as the OWL at Purdue (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/) or in the MLA handbook printed by the Modern Language Association. A new handbook was issued in the past few years, so please make sure you use the current one in writing your paper.

Note: if you are unsure of examples of MLA usage, please ask for examples if needed.
