
Julia Hsiao established her name as early as in the 1970s by works such as My Son Hansen, The Love Affair of the Doctor in A Small Town and Since the Death of A High School Girl that explored unusual themes and social issues during the fast changing time of Taiwan. The realistic characters and their life stories she created often share the dilemmas and trivial struggles we are facing daily. With a sharp style, Julia Hsiao’s oeuvre critically reflects the recent development of the Taiwanese society.
A frequent winner of literary awards, Julia Hsiao has published more than ten collections of short stories and her stories have been printed again and again. Her latest work was a novel The Taipei in Reversed Light (2015).
